Pandora's Toybox Divine Powers and Upgrades

Last updated: May 24, 2026 Systems Build planning

Divine powers are your active tools, but upgrades decide whether those tools become a repeatable plan. The strongest routes combine a clear god role, in-run modifiers, bloodline value, and permanent Faith Crystal growth.

Baseline powers

Epimetheus gives the run its basic toolset: creating humans, direct intervention, rain for food support, and technology guidance. These powers keep the civilization moving before support gods define the run's specialty.

PowerWhat it doesBest use
Origin of HumansTurns trees into humans with a high deformity riskEmergency population creation when the map lacks people
Throw of the GodsBasic direct damage interventionEarly threat removal before larger punishment powers matter
RainSupports berries, shrubs, and food growthKeeping expansion from starving
Technology RevelationsPushes civilization toward new structures and systemsTurning a settlement into a functioning city-state

Support god examples

GodPrimary useBest when
ZeusPopulation creation, bloodline play, and Thunder Fury clearingYou need direct pressure against heretics or rival faith centers
ApolloHealing and conversion through a safer, stability-focused routeYou want to win belief pressure without destroying too much population
HadesResurrection and population recovery after war, plague, or collapseYour run keeps losing people faster than it can rebuild
AresCombat-heavy pressure and holy-war supportYou are leaning into conflict instead of slow conversion
HestiaHearth Protection and defensive stabilityYou need a safer territory instead of faster expansion
HeraExtra population output with a deformity tradeoffYou can handle risk and want more bodies quickly

Upgrade layers

LayerWhat it changesHow to use it
In-run modifiersTemporary boosts that change how a divine power behavesPick them to support the problem your current map is creating
BloodlinesPassive identity that can make a population more stable or aggressiveUse them to turn one city-state into a better long-term engine
Faith CrystalsPermanent growth outside the runSpend them on gods or upgrades that make future clears more consistent

High-value modifiers

ModifierEffectWhy it matters
Thunder Fury faith gainHeretic kills can return 50 Faith PointsLets clearing threats feed the next divine action
Creation suppliesDivine Creation can add berries, wood, and stoneTurns population growth into a resource patch
Devotion implantNew humans gain devotion but carry extra deformity riskStrong for faith control, dangerous if overused
No-cooldown growthPermanent upgrades can improve casting frequencyBest when a power is central to your run plan

Best upgrade mindset

Upgrade toward a loop, not a random pile of power. If Zeus is your pressure answer, look for upgrades that help him clear threats and recover faith. If Apollo is your stabilizer, prioritize conversion, healing, and population preservation.

Failure Checks

ProblemLikely causeFix
Your powers feel strong but the run still stallsYou upgraded effects without solving food, population, or faith incomePick the next upgrade for the bottleneck that is actually stopping progress
Faith runs dry after every crisisToo many casts are reactive and none feed the next actionFavor loops that create stability, recover faith, or reduce repeated emergency spending
New humans create more problems than valuePopulation growth is outpacing recovery and deformity controlSlow creation, add healing or stability, and avoid risky growth modifiers until the city can absorb them
A support god feels uselessThe map problem does not match that god's roleUse conversion gods for belief pressure, recovery gods after losses, and punishment gods for immediate threats
