God unlocks are tied to long-term progression. Clear scenarios, earn Faith Crystals, then spend them on support gods that solve the problems blocking your next clear.

The trap is treating a new god like a trophy case. If your next clear still dies to the same heretic wave, food collapse, or population wipe, the unlock did not fail; your spending target was wrong. Do this before you chase novelty: name the failure that ends your runs, then unlock the god that gives that failure a real answer.

How god selection works

The player role is centered on Epimetheus, while support gods shape the run around growth, conversion, recovery, war, or stability. That means unlock planning should be practical: do not chase every god at once. Unlock the kind of answer your runs lack.

Early unlock priority

For early progression, prioritize gods or upgrades that make clears more consistent: population creation, faith stability, heretic control, and recovery after disasters. A god that helps you finish scenarios faster indirectly helps you earn more crystals.

Think of god unlocks like picking a deckbuilder archetype. A pile of interesting cards is not a deck, and a pile of interesting gods is not a route. Your first goal is not to see every button; it is to build one clear plan that survives pressure often enough to fund the next experiment.

  1. First priority: unlock an answer for population growth or faith stability.
  2. Second priority: add a clean heretic answer, either conversion or punishment.
  3. Third priority: improve recovery so one bad war or disaster does not end the run.
  4. Later priority: test aggressive holy-war or deformity-risk strategies once clears are stable.

Unlock planning rule

Treat each unlock as a tool for one repeated failure. If your settlement dies before it becomes productive, growth and stability matter more than a flashy combat route. If the city grows well but loses to rival belief pressure, conversion or punishment becomes the better unlock target. This keeps Faith Crystals pointed at consistency instead of novelty.

If this is happening after multiple unlocks, it usually means you are spreading crystals across hopes instead of problems. Stop after one failed clear, write down the exact collapse point, and make the next unlock a recovery move for that collapse. That is slower than buying whatever looks cool, but it turns meta progression into actual progress.
