After Powers-A-Plenty, keep a familiar weapon for one focused hunt and watch where its rhythm changed. Judge a new power by entry timing, punish length, reset safety, sustain, and co-op coverage before changing the rest of the build.

What changed at a decision level

Klei's official Steam announcement for the Powers-A-Plenty update says the update adds a weapon-power type, expands power variety, changes several power families, improves some multiplayer and interface details, and fixes bugs. Those changes reach the hunt through weapon rhythm, support choices, boss preparation, and team spacing.

Do not assume your old favorite weapon is worse because a familiar hunt feels different. A new weapon power can change the way a weapon asks you to enter, punish, or reset. A changed power family can change what support a route expects. A quality-of-life change can make co-op or handheld play feel less awkward without changing the whole build.

Where the update reaches your build

SituationBuild ideaWhy it worksFailure riskWhen not to use it
A weapon power changes how your weapon behaves.Keep the next hunt focused on entry, punish, and reset timing.Weapon powers can affect entry, reach, reset, or rotation feel. You may overvalue a fun modifier before checking boss safety.Do not use it if the run already lacks basic survival or boss prep.
A power family feels different from old advice.Ask which job the family now supports: shield, summon, cold, electric, general support, or recovery.Family identity matters more than isolated reward excitement. You may force old synergies that no longer line up cleanly.Do not use it when the offered power solves none of the current route's problems.
Co-op rooms feel more readable after the update.Set spacing, entry order, and rescue roles before changing weapons.Small multiplayer changes can make old team habits safer or expose bad ones. The team may still collapse if everyone chases damage at once.Do not use it if players refuse assigned attention and rescue jobs.
A later patch fixes crashes or power bugs.Try a previously avoided route with the same weapon job.Bug fixes can restore a route without changing its intended role.A restored interaction can still be a poor match for the current hunt.Do not use one fix as a reason to ignore boss safety or recovery.

First hunt after the update

  1. Keep your weapon familiar. A familiar weapon makes power changes easier to feel.
  2. Pick one power question. Watch whether the new or changed power affects entry, punish, reset, sustain, or co-op coverage.
  3. Do not judge by room speed only. A route that clears rooms faster can still be worse for bosses.
  4. Check boss safety before calling it a build. If the route cannot survive one mistake, it is not ready yet.
  5. Write what moved. Good notes sound like "reset timing changed" or "shield support matters earlier," not "this is broken."

Keep the weapon's job clear

A faster room clear can hide worse boss safety, weaker recovery, or broken co-op spacing. Keep the weapon's original job clear while judging a new power: entry control, punish damage, reach, sustain, or team coverage.

If the route feels different after Powers-A-Plenty, change the affected layer first. A power-family shift does not require a new weapon when the old weapon still enters, punishes, and resets cleanly.
