A Camp Needs a Front to Defend
Use militia camps as support points for a military-pressure route, not as random buildings dropped wherever space remains. V.1.0.8 removed the construction conflict between militia camps, but placement still decides whether the route holds. Tie each camp to one defended front, keep faith support available, and preserve Workshop access for promoted soldiers.

Why militia routes stall
A militia route usually fails for boring reasons. The camp is too far from the pressure point, the city economy is already starving for faith, health bars are read too late, or promoted soldiers lose the support loop that made the plan work. V.1.0.8 fixed several friction points, but it did not turn military play into autopilot.
Think like this: a militia camp is only useful if it supports a named problem. If the problem is heretic pressure, place and support around that pressure. If the problem is rival military threat, keep your response path readable. If the problem is economy collapse, stop building more military pieces and repair the faith route first.
Defense Decision Loop
Before placing another camp, run this loop. It keeps military play from turning into a second economy problem.

1. Name the threatWhat exactly is this camp solving? One heretic front, one rival push, or one defense route.Do not build yet; scout the pressure first.
2. Check the reserveCan faith support the fight without emptying the run?You can still react after the first bad trade.Repair faith income before adding military cost.
3. Read the fight earlyAre friendly units losing health before the threat breaks? You can support, retreat, or stop before panic.Treat the fight as a route failure, not a camp-count problem.
4. Preserve supportDoes promotion keep the Workshop flow the route needs? The squad leader still receives the support that justifies the promotion.Do not promote into a route with no faith or Workshop support.
Militia Camp Placement Rules

Build for one pressure front firstHeretics or hostile pressure are clearly coming from one area.Focused defense is easier to support with faith powers and unit attention.Scatter camps around every possible future threat.
Leave room for support buildingsYou expect the military route to last beyond one emergency. The route needs Workshop access, support flow, and readable unit movement.Crowd camps so tightly that the route has no recovery space.
Keep faith support nearby in your planYou rely on powers to stabilize combat, conversion, or recovery.Military routes still fail if every useful action drains the faith reserve.Spend the faith buffer before the fight starts.
Reopen space for a second campOne defended front is stable and another pressure route needs support.V.1.0.8 removed the former construction conflict between militia camps.Add camps before the faith economy can support another front.
Defense Route Priority
Stabilize the faith economy first. If every defensive action empties your reserve, the camp is not the problem.
Name the threat. Heretics, rival pressure, raids, and expansion risk are different problems. Do not solve all of them with one vague military build.
Place camps around response time. A camp that cannot influence the pressure point is decoration.
Watch health bars earlier. V.1.0.8 differentiates friendly and enemy health bar colors, so use that clarity to decide before the fight is already lost.
Keep squad leader support connected. Promotion should preserve the Workshop flow the route depends on.
Military Route Decision Table
SituationBest first moveWhy
Heretics are spreading but the economy is stable.Pair camp planning with conversion and punishment tools. You need pressure control without burning all faith at once.
Combat is unreadable.Slow down, track friendly/enemy health bars, and decide support earlier. The patch improves readability; the player still has to react.
A second front needs its own camp.Add it only after the first front and faith reserve are stable.V.1.0.8 removed the former camp construction conflict.
A promoted soldier loses the route's support flow.Keep Workshop access connected to the squad leader's job.V.1.0.8 addressed soldiers losing Workshop access after promotion.
Military route slows every other system.Return to faith reserve, resources, and heretic timing first.A camp cannot cover a collapsing economy.
How To Read Health Bars After V.1.0.8
The official update says friendly and enemy unit health bar colors are now differentiated. That matters because combat decisions in Pandora's Toybox are often timing decisions. If you wait until the whole group looks doomed, your only options are usually expensive rescue casts or messy punishment.
If friendly units are dropping first: support, retreat, or stop the route before spending on new pressure.
If enemies are dropping cleanly: do not panic-spend faith just because the fight looks busy.
If both sides are unstable: the route probably needs better economy, placement, or power timing before another camp.
Squad Leaders Keep Workshop Access
V.1.0.8 fixed an issue where soldiers could lose the Workshop after becoming squad leaders. Promotion is still worthwhile only when the new leader has a clear front, enough faith support, and a Workshop flow that serves the military route.

Defense Should Reduce the City's Workload
Militia camps should make the colony easier to read, not become a second panic build order that drains workers, construction time, and upgrade focus. If defense steals attention from the faith economy every turn, shrink the defended front and restore the reserve before adding more military pieces.
