Rune Dice Relics and Runes Planning Guide

Last updated: June 28, 2026Relics and runesRoute-first support

Pick Rune Dice relics and runes by asking what your current dice plan is missing. Relics are better when they make your class and dice fusion plan more consistent over several fights. Runes are better when they solve the next battlefield problem before a boss or dangerous route node. Do not grab every exciting effect if it makes your dice, class, and route pull in different directions.

What this guide helps with

Rune Dice has dice fusion, classes, relics, consumable runes, route choices, shops, and bosses. That means support choices are not just passive bonuses. A relic or rune is good when it makes the run easier to execute. If your throws are messy, your merges are disconnected, or your boss prep is late, the problem may be support planning rather than raw damage.

The trap is treating relics like a universal tier list and runes like emergency buttons. In a dice roguelike, support is only good if it makes the next board state easier to play. Do not chase a shiny relic that asks your class to become something else, and do not save a rune so long that the fight it was supposed to fix already killed the run.

If this is happening, it usually means your support choices are not attached to a route problem. The recovery move is to name the missing layer before buying: setup, control, merge consistency, boss answer, or damage. Then take the relic or rune that fixes that layer, even if it looks less exciting than the high-roll option.

Relic and Rune Priority Table

Run statePreferWhyAvoid
Your dice plan is already clear.Relics that reinforce the same plan.Permanent support is strongest when it improves several future fights.Taking a flashy relic that changes the run for no reason.
The next fight needs a specific answer.Runes that manipulate the battlefield or timing.Consumable support is best when it prevents a near-term failure.Saving runes forever while a boss kills the run.
Merges feel random.Support that improves consistency or setup.A cleaner board makes dice fusion easier to repeat.Buying effects that only reward high-roll turns.
Boss prep is weak.Relic/rune choices that answer the boss route problem.Bosses can disrupt the field or change the fight plan, so preparation matters before the node starts.Entering bosses with strong pieces but no named plan.

Treat relics like support for the route you already have. If a relic asks the board to become a different build, it is probably a trap for this run.

How to Choose Relics

Treat relics as long-term support for the dice, class, and route you are already building. A good relic should make your current class, dice collection, and merge plan more reliable. If it asks the run to become a different build, only take it when your current plan is already failing or the new direction is obviously easier to support.

  1. Start with the class plan. Does the relic make your class's current approach easier to execute?
  2. Check the dice plan. Does it support the dice you are actually merging, buying, or setting up?
  3. Look ahead to bosses. Does it help with the type of failure likely to happen before or during the boss node?
  4. Skip disconnected power. A relic can be strong in isolation and still bad for the route in front of you.

How to Use Runes

Runes are tactical route tools, not background upgrades. Use them before a bad board state becomes unrecoverable. If you only use a rune after the fight is already lost, you are treating a planning tool like a panic button.

A good rune use should answer one question: what specific problem does this fight need solved? If the answer is unclear, save the rune or adjust the route. If the answer is a boss, a dangerous enemy wave, or a board state that breaks your merge plan, spending the rune can be correct even if it feels early.

Rune Timing Budget Check

Before entering a risky route node, decide whether your rune is a setup tool, a rescue tool, or a boss tool. The worst use is the undefined middle: saving it because it feels valuable, then spending it after the board has already stopped supporting your dice plan.

Route momentRune budget callWhy it helpsAvoid
The next fight threatens your merge setup.Spend for board stability before the chain breaks.A stable board keeps future dice and relic choices readable.Saving the rune until scattered dice make the plan unrecoverable.
Normal fights are safe, but the boss route is close.Reserve one clear boss answer. The rune has more value when it protects the fight that can end the run.Using it on a comfortable fight just to speed up the room.
Your relic plan needs one more clean turn to work.Use the rune to buy that turn.Temporary support is strongest when it lets permanent support start paying off.Pivoting away from a good relic plan before testing it.
You cannot name what the rune fixes.Save it and choose a safer route node.Undefined rune use usually hides a route-planning problem.Spending because the button is available.

Support Pick Triage

When two support choices both look strong, choose the one that makes the next three turns easier to play. The best relic or rune is often the boring one that protects the route from the failure you already saw.

You noticePick support forWhy this beats raw powerWhen not to pick it
Good dice, messy positions.Setup or battlefield control. The route already has damage; it needs cleaner access to that damage. If the board is stable and boss damage is clearly missing.
Strong class idea, weak normal turns.Repeatable consistency.A class plan only matters if ordinary fights keep feeding it.If the route is about to face a one-fight boss check.
One dangerous node is next.A rune or temporary answer.Short-term support can save the run before permanent value has time to matter. If the fight is already comfortable and the rune would only save time.
Everything looks useful. The missing layer you can name out loud.Naming the layer prevents support choices from pulling the build apart. If your current plan is already dead and a full pivot is cleaner.

Shop and Route Rules

DecisionSafer ruleWhy
Buying diceBuy dice that improve your current merge or class plan.More dice can make the run less consistent if they do not fit.
Buying relicsPrioritize repeatable support for the next several fights.Permanent value compounds only when the route can use it.
Buying or saving runesUse runes for named route problems, not vague future fear.Consumables are strongest when they prevent a known failure.
Risking dice at altarsOnly risk core dice when the potential upgrade supports the plan.A risky altar is only worth it when the possible upgrade makes the route cleaner, not just bigger.
Choosing boss prepEnter with one answer: damage, control, setup, or route stability.Bosses can test different tactics, so generic strength may not be enough.

Failure Checks

If relics and runes feel weak, check these before blaming the offer pool:

Patch Context

Patch context: relic and rune values can shift, but the planning mistake is stable. Do not spend runes just because the button is available, and do not pick relics that pull the board away from its class plan. Save emergency tools for the fight or route segment that actually breaks the run.
