Rotwood Co-op Roles Guide

Rotwood co-op works best when players stop duplicating the same job. Assign one player to safe control, one to boss punish windows, one to ranged or edge pressure if available, and one to rescue discipline instead of letting every player chase personal damage.

Team Role Table

RoleMain jobGood signFailure sign
AnchorStay safe, call resets, preserve rescue windows. The team has somewhere safe to regroup.Everyone is low at the same time.
PunisherUse the clearest weapon window for boss or elite damage.Damage happens after control, not before.Punisher starts fights alone.
ControllerInterrupt or pressure enemies that break combos.Threats stop splitting the room.Small enemies ruin every punish.
Support learnerPlay safer, revive cleanly, and avoid dragging enemies across allies.Newer players survive long enough to learn.Rescues become panic chains.

Before the Hunt

Official Rotwood information confirms solo and co-op play with up to three friends, but more players do not automatically make a hunt safer. Co-op adds more bodies, more enemy attention, and more chances for rescue mistakes. Before pushing harder content, agree on weapon coverage and what happens when a player gets pressured.

  1. Pick a focus target. Split damage only when the room is already stable.
  2. Protect the rescue path. The safest player should not be the first one to greed.
  3. Call resets early. A reset at half health is cheaper than a rescue at zero.
  4. Do not all chase the boss tail. One player should watch space and adds when the fight allows it.

Co-op Decision Gate

Team stateBest callWhyAvoid
Two players are healthy, one is pressured.Regroup and clear the pressure source.A saved player keeps team damage alive.Leaving them to duel alone.
Boss is low, team is also low.Short punish only, then reset.Finishing greed often causes wipes.All-in attacks with no rescue plan.
Weapons overlap too much.Change roles, not necessarily weapons.Even similar weapons can cover different jobs.Restarting because composition is imperfect.
New player keeps dying.Give them anchor or support learner duties.Learning safe movement beats forcing damage.Using them as bait without saying so.

Rescue Order and Callout Rules

Most co-op wipes get worse when every player tries to solve the crisis at once. Treat a downed or pressured teammate as a room-control problem first. The rescue is safer after the team creates space, names the threat, and stops overlapping greedy attacks.

Co-op crisisFirst calloutWho movesWhat not to do
One player is pressured away from the group.Clear the path before chasing damage. The safest player anchors space while another pressures the threat.Let every player sprint toward the same rescue angle.
A rescue attempt keeps failing.Reset first, rescue second. The player with the cleanest route moves after pressure drops.Start a revive or assist while the same enemy is still active.
Boss is punishable but a teammate is low.Short punish, then regroup.Punisher takes only the confirmed window; anchor watches the exit.Turn a safe boss window into a full-team all-in.
New player keeps pulling danger.Protect the learner lane.Controller or anchor plays closer to them for one hunt.Blame the player while keeping the same room plan.

Two-Minute Role Reset

If a co-op hunt starts messy, do not spend the whole run arguing about builds. Pause the plan for one room and reset jobs around the failure that is actually happening. The point is not to create a perfect team composition; it is to stop the next mistake from chaining into three rescues.

What went wrongTemporary job swapWhy it worksWhen to undo it
The same player keeps getting isolated.Move the safest player into anchor duty near their lane.It gives the pressured player a predictable exit instead of forcing solo survival. After two rooms where the group regroups without a rescue chain.
Everyone dives the same boss opening. One player becomes exit caller; only the punisher extends the window.Damage stays useful without deleting the rescue path. When the team can call short punish windows without overlap.
Small enemies keep breaking heavy attacks.Controller swaps from boss pressure to interrupter cleanup.Heavy damage becomes safer after the room stops stealing openings. When the punisher can land damage without taking trades.
The learner is trying to do every job.Give them one safe repeatable task: call pressure, clear edge threats, or hold exits.A simple job keeps the player useful while reducing panic movement. When they can survive the task without pulling danger across allies.

Before your next co-op hunt

Ask the group one boring question before queueing: who keeps the room safe when the fight gets ugly? If nobody answers, the run will probably turn into four solo players sharing a lobby. Pick roles first, then chase damage.
