Romestead Automation Readiness Gate

Last updated: June 27, 2026Early AccessAutomation decision

Do not chase automation in Romestead until one repeated job is already readable by hand. The Logistics Tent is worth pushing when food is stable, the night reset is boring, the input pile is close to the station that needs it, and one player or role owns the route. If the base is still a random dump yard, automation usually makes the mess faster.

Automation readiness gate

Automation is not a rescue plan for an unreadable base. It is a multiplier for a route that already makes sense. Before you push Guardian of Minerva for the Logistics Tent reward, walk through the next table. If two or more answers are still red, delay the push and spend one day cleaning the base.

Food and recoveryThe base can feed itself and recover after a normal night.Everyone keeps stopping work to find food or repair panic damage.Beginner Guide
Storage laneThe repeated input sits near the station or job that consumes it.Materials exist, but every craft begins with a long search.Resource Hauling
Active chainYou can name one station chain that automation should support first. You want automation to fix every station at once.Crafting Stations
Night resetPlayers and supplies return to a predictable safe point. The group ends each day scattered, injured, or missing tools.Night Defense

Guardian pushThe boss attempt has food, gear support, route timing, and a retry plan. The attempt is only happening because the map path opened.First Boss Prep

Signs you should delay automation

Delaying automation is not falling behind. In Romestead, a late clean Logistics Tent is better than an early one attached to a bad base. If any of these show up, do one recovery day before chasing the reward.

Pick the first automation target

The first automated job should remove a repeated walk, not a vague annoyance. If you cannot point to a resource, station, and destination, you are not choosing an automation target yet. You are hoping the system chooses for you.

Candidate targetGood first useFailure riskWhen not to use it
One crafting station chainThe station is useful but repeated input walks slow it down.Inputs still come from too many scattered piles. If the station is idle because the recipe chain is not stable.
Food or recovery supportThe base survives, but repeated food handling steals too much time.Automation hides a weak food baseline instead of fixing it.If food still collapses whenever players leave camp.
Cart / gate routeThe route is clear and repeated, but manual movement is slow.Bad pathing becomes automated bad pathing. If the lane cuts through night danger or blocked clutter.
Co-op base supportOne player can hand off boring repeated jobs and join boss/biome prep. The team stops communicating because automation looks like a base manager. If nobody owns what automation should prioritize.

Solo and co-op rules

Solo players should use automation to buy attention. The first target should reduce a repeated job that keeps pulling you away from boss prep, exploration, or night recovery. If the base still needs manual triage every few minutes, clean the loop first.

Co-op players should use automation to reduce confusion, not replace roles. The fastest groups usually still need a base caller, a station owner, a hauler or sorter, and someone responsible for night reset. Automation helps those jobs; it does not decide them.

Failure checks

Problem after automationWhat probably happenedRecovery moveRead next
Automation feels weaker than expected. It was attached to a job that was not the real bottleneck.Follow one resource from source to station and find the actual repeated walk.Resource Hauling
The base gets messier.Storage targets were vague before automation started.Split one job-specific pile and route only that chain first.Base Layout
The Guardian push cost too much. The run chased the reward before food, gear, and recovery were stable.Treat the next attempt as a boss prep route, not an automation rush.First Boss Prep
Co-op players stop doing base jobs. The team assumed automation replaced responsibility.Reassign one owner for inputs, one for night reset, and one for route decisions.Co-op Roles

Patch context

Hotfix 0.25.1_7 made the Logistics Tent reward part of the Guardian of Minerva route. That makes automation more attractive earlier, but it also raises the cost of rushing. If future Early Access patches move the reward, change task priority, or adjust storage behavior, keep the same readiness question: do you have one clean repeated job for automation to help?
